Honest Reviews: CocoFloss

2018, Jul 04 · 2 Minute Read

CocoFloss is a dental floss company created by a dentist and her sister in California. Their goal was to make the task of flossing more exciting by creating different flavours of flosses. The sisters seem to be up-to-date with the latest coconut oil trends - because they infused the floss with coconut oil, perhaps to attract the younger generation who is obsessed with adding coconut oil into everything. Plus, celebrities have recently started a trend of coconut oil pulling, which they claim reduces bacteria in the mouth; it involves swishing around coconut oil in the mouth for 20 minutes. There are no scientific studies to back up that theory yet…so take their advice with a grain of salt.

With that being said, I was still super excited when I received my CocoFloss package in the mail, because it was visually beautiful and I couldn't wait to satisfy my big sweet tooth with the strawberry flavored floss.

So for the past 6 months, I've been using CocoFloss to floss my teeth every night, and here are my thoughts:

  • Taste: They ranged from very subtle to almost no taste.
  • Smell: All the different flosses have a pleasant smell, which correspond to their flavour. I feel like they play on your smell senses more than your taste senses.
  • Texture: Very smooth, easier to glide in between teeth. It's slightly thicker than regular floss, which I found to be quite advantageous because I could see more food and plaque being removed by the floss. However, if you have moderate crowding, then the thickness of the floss might be a slight disadvantage.
  • Price: Very pricey. The price of regular floss is approximately $2 for 55 yards, whereas CocoFloss is $8 for 32 yards, making it 7x more expensive than regular floss.
    • Note it is cheaper than $8/32 yards if you buy it in a bulk.

Overall

I really like the concept of having different flavored flosses for patients to get them excited about the dreadful chore. Though the taste isn't as strong as I anticipated based on their advertising, I still have to give them credit for their beautiful scents, thickness and visual appearance.

Unfortunately, I think its only downside is its price - $8 for 32 yards. However, 32 yards should last you about 2 months, thus, it's merely $4 a month. So, if you're a flossing fanatic or you know someone who is, then CocoFloss is the perfect gift and feels like a luxury treat. Side note: If you're a dentist and you're reading this article, consider buying sample-sized (7 yards) CocoFloss to distribute to new patients. Plus, if you buy in bulk, you can get an incredible bulk discount.
